Today, I’ll show you how to create what can be seen in the image below. Because this isn’t quite a 4-steps tutorial, I’ll cut the introduction and get straight to work!

Creating a Box in Photoshop

1. Create a new document, using any resolution you want.

2. Fill the background layer with a dark color (or Black, in my case), and then create a new layer (Shift+Ctrl+N).

3. Create a rectangular selection and fill it with the color you want for the box. You can add Stroke to this layer, so you get a nice border.

4. Duplicate this layer 2 times, to obtain the 3 visible faces of the box.

5. Now, move the layer having the square located in the upper left side of the document until it joins the one below it (simply use the Move Tool).

6. Press Ctrl+T to quickly access the Free Transform Tool, and use it to create the illusion of a 3D space.

7. Now, do the same with the square from the other layer duplicate, to complete the work.

In the end, you can apply different fiters to each visible side of the box, including pictures. For the image at the beginning of this article, I only used Photoshop’s filters, but you can do a lot more, I am sure of that, so get back here and show us where you managed to arrive, starting from this tutorial!
