I don’t know how inspired is this title, but I can’t think about anything else than a journey through stars…or a thrilling ride like the one that you can enjoy in the game Crysis, when inside the cave system(although the effect seen there is quite different, and I am going to remember and write a different tutorial for that). Anyway, we’re here to learn some new Photoshop things, and not to talk about games, so let’s see how easy can be to create an image like the one below, shall we?

Star Journey

1. First, create an image using the settings you need. For example, you can go with 1440X900 pixels to create a wallpaper for your 19″ wide display, or 125X125 to create a nice avatar for a forum, this is your call.

2. Use the Paint Bucket to fill the image with Black.

3. Now, add some noise. Go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise, and play with the settings. See mine below.

4. Creating the “speed of light” effect is really easy. Simply go to Filter>Blur>Radial Blur, and use the settings you can see below(of course, playing with them a little won’t hurt at all!).

5. As you can see, our image doesn’t look bad at all. If you want to change the colors a bit, press Ctrl+U and play with the Hue/Saturation controls until you get a result that suits your taste better.

6. As an example, after playing with Hue/Saturation and Brightness/Contrast levels a little, I added a small flare in the middle of the image(Filter>Render>Lens Flare)…
