
1. As usual, first we need to create a new document. If you want to use it as a texture for future projects, make it square, but you can also go straight with a large image, so you can send it right to your desktop as wallpaper, the moment you’re done.
2. Use Filter>Render>Difference Clouds a few times.
3. Check the result to avoid obtaining “flat” stone. Anyway, you can turn back to this step and use Difference Clouds a few more times, if the final result doesn’t look good.
4. Press Ctrl+Shift+L to automatically adjust levels.
5. Now, use Filter>Stylize>Emboss, with the settings below.
6. Depending on how many times you applied Difference Clouds, you may need to play a little with the settings above until you achieve the best results. In the end, I used the Smart Sharpen filter to enhance my stone texture a little, and here’s the result…
