There are thousands of ways to create nice text effects in Photoshop, and I am sure that cartoon-style text is something interesting for a lot of people. Since creating one of those many possible cartoon-style writings isn’t really hard, this is exactly what we’re going to learn today…
1. Press Ctrl+N to create a new document and choose white as background color. Use the size you need, but be sure to be able to accomodate larger text, so that my settings work.

3. Right click on the new created text layer and left click on Rasterize Type.

4. Create a new layer under the text layer and fill it with white using the Paint Bucket Tool.

5. Merge the two layers, then use the following filters, by going to the Filter menu and…

6. First, choose Sketch>Plaster and use the settings in the screenshot below.

7. Next, go to Distort>Ocean Ripple do as you see below…

8. The last filter to apply is Cutout, from the Artistic category. I used the settings below, but don’t be afraid to experiment.

9. To separate the letters from the background use Select>Color Range.

10. Be sure to remove all remaining black areas from the image, apart from the text.

11. Now, simply apply one layer style to make your text look better, or right click on the layer and from Blending Options choose Stroke and play with the settings until you get something you like!

If you don’t get a nice result from the first try, be sure to use settings as close to mine, and then start experimenting step by step. After all, Photoshop has a very useful feature, called History, so don’t be afraid to use it for turning back to a previous step, if things start looking ugly for you!
