When talking about text effects, the possibilities are endless, as well as the path you can follow to the final result. Sometimes, you can get better results in 5 minutes, than in an hour, but it all gets down to practice, after all. Anyway, let’s cut the talking and start working! Today, we’ll learn to create text that looks like the one in the image below…

The result

1. Create a new document, and be sure to fill the background layer with black. Below, you can see the settings I used.

Document settings

2. Add some text, use any font you want, it doesn’t really matter. Just be sure that the text is white.

Text added

3. Right click the text layer and select Blending Options.

Moving to Blending Options

4. First, go to Bevel and Emboss and use the settings below. If your text doesn’t look good, change them according to your text size, because different document settings require different settings here, too!

5. Now, below Bevel and Emboss, select Texture and check my settings below, as a reference. Feel free to play with yours and watch the real-time preview while you do it.

6. Last step in the Blending Options realm is to set Gradient Overlay options.

7. Duplicate the text layer, and use the Gaussian Blur on the duplicate. I used 5 pixels Gaussian Blur, for example.

8. To make things look better, place the layer where you used the Gaussian Blur beneath the original text layer.

9. Enjoy your result and feel free to save the layer style for later reference!
