Most tutorials I’ve seen about cutting text from an image involve working with two documents, more layers, sometimes even layer masks… but there’s a really simple method to do this, and today I want to share it with you. Below, you have a possible result achieved by applying this technique, but you can let your imagination run free and obtain different results(unfortunately, you’ll end up using more layers, masks, and so on…so let’s keep it simple, shall we?)…

The Result

1. Open the image you want to use. Nature scenes, fruits, colorful images, these are best (I tell you this so you won’t end up using your own picture, as I do…).

The image

2. Press the Type Tool icon on the tools palette, and select the Horizontal Type Mask Tool(you can use the Vertical one too, if you like).

3. Type some text.

The selection

4. After presing Enter, you got a selection. Press Ctrl+Shift+I to invert it.

The inverted selection

5. Now, press Delete to remove anything, apart from the text.

This is it

6. Invert the selection again, and copy the text to use it in another project, as you need.

This is it, I hope you’ll find today’s lesson useful.
