Now, let’s see what steps we need to take, from an empty Photoshop document, to a nice wood texture, shall we?
1. Create a new Photoshop document, using any settings you want. Try to have a square document, anyway, if you want to use the texture later(that should be obvious, I guess).
2. Create a new layer and fill it with Brown. Make it lighter or darker, as you wish.
3. Now, go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise and use 8%, Gaussian, Monochromatic as settings.
4. Don’t worry about what you see, we’re on the right path! Time to add some Motion Blur, using the settings below…
5. Much better now, but we’re not there yet. The things you have to do now are - duplicate the current layer, desaturate it(Shift+Ctrl+U), set the blending mode of this copy to Soft Light and change its opacity to 40%.
6. Now, simply apply Filter>Artistic>Poster Edges using its default settings. You should see something like the screenshot below…
7. Since wood is not perfect, go to Filter>Liquify and use it to give our texture a natural look. Just play with those tools until you get things right. You already saw what kind of result you should have, so I don’t have anything else to say than “Good Luck!”…
