Sometimes, when you’re in a hurry and all you need is some text with a catchy effect on it and a bit of shadow, there’s nothing better than to use a layer style. Unfortunately, for beginners this is not that easy, although nice results can be obtained in less than 3 minutes by using this approach, so here it goes…

1. Create a new Photoshop document, I leave the resolution and background color to your choice. In the screenshot below you can see my settings.

2. Select the Type tool and type some text. I used the Horizontal Type tool, but you can use what you need (you can always get back to this step and make another choice to see how it changes the final result).

3. If you need to change your text’s size or font, simply select it and make the required changes, there’s no need to type it all again.

4. Go to your right and open the Styles palette, if it wasn’t open already.

5. Make sure the active layer is the text layer.

6. Simply click on a style to see your text change.

7. To disable some of the style’s effects, simply click the eye icon to their left.

8. Save your work and enjoy it!
