You got a picture with your kid with at least 20 other kids, but you want to make your little Jimmy stand out from the crowd? Nothing easier than using the colorswash effect, keeping your kid in its entire full-color glory, and turning the other elements of the image into black and white! If this seems to be hard, you don’t have to worry, because it’s much easier than one would expect, so here we go…

1. Open the photo you want to change.

2. Go to Image>Adjustments>Desaturate or simply press Shift+Ctrl+U.

3. Select the History Brush and adjust its size as needed.

3. Carefully brush the areas you want to stand out from the black and white background. Zoom in and change the brush size when needed.

4. Enjoy your result and prepare for some post-work…
